Cross section of a kinetosome, the base of the  “undulipodium”

“An undulipodium, sometimes referred to with the anachronistic term eukayotic flagellum  is an organelle with a ubiquitous pattern of 9(2)+2 arrangement of microtubules within a cell that is the base of sperm tails , oviduct cilium and other cilia in organisms as diverse as moss, ginko trees and mammals. It provides motility with a whip-like action or in modified forms various sensing systems such as the rods and cones of the eye. The  kinetosome is homologous with the centriole or mitotic spindle and has the characteristic pattern of 9(3)+0 microtubules.  Both the kinetosome and undulipodia are made up of over 600 proteins. They are very ancient structures, indeed–a “seme”, a trace of evolutionary significance.”

This print is derived from the intersections of sets of waves. Waves are a kind of distribution of energy. These images can be seen as similar to abstract paintings, except that rather than being layers of paint and generated by gesture, they are layers of images of physical phenomena, suggested by me, and generated by the computer. The subjects are relationships and precessions, not objects.
